Britain and Russia cooperate in piracy incident
Britain News.Net Wednesday 12th November, 2008
The British navy has joined with a Russian ship to kill three Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden as they tried to hijack a Danish cargo ship.
The men were killed when a Royal Navy crew returned fire as they intercepted a boat in one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, south of Yemen.
Britain's HMS Cumberland was in the region as part of a NATO mission to protect shipping after scores of pirate attacks on ships.
It was joined by a Russian frigate Neustrashimy from Russia's Baltic Sea Fleet which supplied a helicopter to assist in the battle as the pirates shot at the Danish vessel with automatic weapons. Email this story to a friend
