TAGBILARAN CITY, Dec. 13 (PIA) -- Four local government units (LGUs) of Bohol are among the outstanding LGUs nationwide that completed the national government's measures in the anti-illegal drugs campaign.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Bohol named the LGUs of Balilihan, Calape, Candijay, and Garcia Hernandez as among the awardees of the agency's second National Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Awards.
During the Joint Meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) and Provincial Joint Task Force (JTF) to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) held at the New Provincial Capitol on Wednesday, DILG Provincial Director Johnjoan Mende announced that all four municipalities garnered perfect scores in terms of functionality in the criteria used to measure the functionality of ADACs at the provincial, city, and municipal levels.
DILG through Memorandum Circular No. 208-2019 signed by Sec. Eduardo Ano said the department, through the awards, not only aims to recognize exemplary LGUs, but also to push other localities through their ADACs to excel as well in the campaign against narcotics.
It also aims for the national government to gather and acknowledge anti-illegal drug innovations and distinctive programs implemented by LGUs.
Mende said the scoring was based on an audit conducted by a composite team comprised of officers from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and DILG.
However, Mende explained that the perfect scores and award are not an indication that a locality is drug-free.
"Gitan-aw ra kung ang ADAC functioning ba, performing ba sa mga plano, projects, council meetings (We just looked at their ADAC if it's still functioning and implementing its plans, projects, and holding council meetings)," Mende explained.
DILG will officially confer the award to the winning LGUs on Dec. 16, 2019 at the Manila Hotel.
Mayors and Liga ng mga Barangay presidents of the winning municipalities are invited to receive their plaque of commendation. (ecb/PIA7-Bohol)
