D.C. United announced a multi-year partnership designating FanDuel as the exclusive sports betting sponsor of the MLS club.
The partnership will place a retail sportsbook in 2021 at Audi Field, the MLS team's home stadium, pending licensing and regulatory approvals from the DC Lottery.
"The FanDuel Sportsbook is best-in-class and we believe their expertise, technology, and product will provide our fans, guests at Audi Field, and the Buzzard Point neighborhood a full slate of entertainment options," said Sam Porter, chief strategy officer of D.C. United.
D.C. United has a deal with Caesars Entertainment that includes a future sportsbook at the same venue. That pact, however, expires this year, The Washington Post reported.
The news comes on the heels of British company William Hill opening a sportsbook at Capital One Arena, home of the Washington Capitals and Wizards.
"There's going to be intense competition between Nationals Park and Audi Field, given their proximity," David VanEgmond, founder and CEO of Bettor Capital and a former FanDuel executive, told Sportico.
"For D.C. United to have the experience and expertise of FanDuel, which is the nation's largest sportsbook, that's something differentiated when they looked at the marketplace."
