No joy for stock investors in Asia, across-the-board dips

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia - Stocks in Asia weakened on Tuesday, with the damage registering. across the board.

In China, the Shanghai Composite dropped 16.29 points or 0.47 percent to 3,447.99.

The Australian All Ordinaries fell 10.00 points or 0.13 percent to 7,750.50.

Tokyo's Nikkei 225 declined 139.19 points or 0.50 percent to 27,641.83.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng slid 40.98 points or 0.16 percent to 26,194.82.

The U.S. dollar slipped during the Asian trading zone. The euro firmed to 1.1880. The British pound inched up to 1.3912. The Japanese yen appreciated to 109.20 The Swiss franc wa sa fraction firmer at 0.9048.

The Canadian dollar rose to 1.2503. The Australian dollar edged up to 0.7400. The New Zealand dollar was slightly stronger at 0.7011.

Overnight on Wall Street, the Nasdaq Composite edged up 8.39 points or 0.06 percent to 14,681.07.

The Standard and Poor's 500 eased 8.11 points or 0.18 percent to 4,387.15.

The Dow Jones lost 97.81 points or 0.28 percent, to close Monday at 34,838.16.
